the armenian epic (heroś of sâson) and shâhnâme

the most important and well- known epic of armenian is the legend of sasonś heroes. this epic has been compiled and written in the 16 th century but it has been told orally since 11th century. this epic is divided into four parts narrating the story of four generations of the heroes of armenian city, sason. comparing tales of this text with shâhnâme, one can vividly see that there exist minimum twenty- eight similar and common motifs including: 1. holy water spring 2.experiment of infants intellect 3.test of marriage 4.heroś special horse 5. model of multi-stages 6. protecting armlet 7.gluttony of hero 8.puberty at 15 9.heroine 10.initation of making love by girls 11. ablution in blood 12. wife`s suicide after her husbands death13.white demon 14.heros special weapon 15. heroes fast development 16. growth of flower out of blood 17. invulnerability of the hero18. the heroes foot going deep into the ground. 19. show of power through handshake 20. illicit coitus 21.luring of the heroes wife into the ones country 22. killing of hero by relatives.23. father and son battle 24. heroes dragon fight to save the lady. 25. heros battle with demon in cave 26. aquatic heroes 27. dreadful cry 28., and drinking the enemies` blood.
